Can I Trust My Guru?

The truthful answer to that question is,
I don’t know.
I started “ShortMeTina.com” because of my own personal story with a subscription service.  Without going into tons and tons of detail, when I started out many years ago in the stock market; I subscribed to a service that in my humble opinion, “sold me a bridge”.
Because I was new to the trading world, I was an easy target and believed just about anything I was told.  This complete trust in “my guru”, along with my naivety, contributed to a loss of tons of money.

Now, as a much wiser trader, it’s easy to see how I was duped.   How does the saying go?  “Hindsight is 20/20”.
It’s quite unfortunate but this is the reality of the trading world (well, one part of it).  Successfully navigating the “well-intentioned” subscription services apart from the ones that seem to prey on the uninformed isn’t easy.

You then ask the question, how can you decipher the “saint” from the “snake oils man”?  I am not sure but the longer you trade the markets, the easier it is to spot a fraud.  And believe me, there’s many out there.
Also, with the Internet being what it is today, you can easily research your service(s) to see how others have faired.

Sites such as http://www.ripoffreport.com and http://www.tradingschools.org do a good job at providing reviews regarding quality of service.

Twitter handles such as @Guruleaks1 and @tradingjudge also provide a voice to this growing conversation.

At the end of the day, I can’t tell you if your guru is genuine (myself included) but when I see pictures posted like the one below (profit of over 14 million in 15 minutes); it’s easy to realize that photos can be manipulated.

And when you can buy props such as the ones pictured below; you have to approach all (myself included) with a raised eyebrow.

I like to end things on a positive note.

I've always said; it is because I went through those frustrating periods of trading (with tons of losses) that I've managed to come out on top.
What do I mean?  Every adversity; every loss, every moment of frustration on my journey has made me who I am.  That is, a better trader.
Understand that you too; are building experience and gaining understanding of the markets with every passing day.
As long as you ensure you have the funds to trade another day; you'll be just fine.
